Bowler’s 20in Defender wheels are lighter and stronger than Land Rover’s standard alloys

Your favourite Land Rover rally car builder (okay, there might not be too much competition in that sphere) Bowler has launched a road-going alloy wheel for new Defender owners who fancy something tougher and lighter than the standard setup.

The ‘Challenge Performance Wheel’ is a 20-inch alloy that mimics the 18-inchers used on the Bowler Defender Challenge rally car. We’re not told how much lighter they are than standard Defender wheels, but Bowler does say that they’re 30 per cent stronger and ‘engineered primarily for lightweight stiffness’ – whatever that means.

Bowler does trade on making things that can withstand a bit of a beating, though. Commercial manager Rob Cooney says that in the Defender Challenge rally series, the company has seen the 18-inch version of this wheel “driven literally miles without tyres and still be serviceable”.

Bowler says the wheels are fully TUV approved and come in either Gloss Black or Anthracite to match the standard Defender colours. Like them folks?
