The record is currently held by the F1 powered Mercedes AMG One

In late 2022, Mercedes-AMG sent shockwaves through the automotive world when Maro Engel piloted the 1035HP AMG One to a record-breaking lap at the Nürburgring, clocking in at an astonishing 6 minutes 35.183 seconds. However, the folks at Hennessey Performance have their sights set on dethroning this champion with their track-focused Venom F5 Revolution, a hypercar boasting a jaw-dropping 1800HP

John Hennessey, the man behind the Texan powerhouse, has big plans for the Venom F5 Revolution. “We're in the mode of straight-line testing and gearing up for Vmax right now,” he tells us, hinting at the car’s immense potential. Acceleration tests and a 0-400-0 km/h record attempt are on the cards, but the real excitement lies in their future plans for lap records.

Recently, the Venom F5 Revolution snatched the lap record at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), besting the Czinger 21C by half a second. Buoyed by this success, Hennessey has set their sights on other iconic circuits. “We'd like to get the Laguna Seca lap record and the Virginia International Raceway record. They’re both on our list, and the Nürburgring too,” says John.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife, with its 20.8 kilometers of twists, turns, and elevation changes, remains the ultimate proving ground for performance cars. Hennessey's chief engineer, Brian Jones, who previously led engineering on the AMG One, believes the Venom F5 Revolution can beat the current record. “I won’t give you the number that Brian thinks the F5 can run, but it’s a bit faster than the current record,” John teases. However, logistical challenges mean this record attempt may take some time to materialize.

While we might not see the Venom F5 Revolution take on the Nürburgring just yet, the anticipation is building. Can Hennessey snatch the 'Ring record from Mercedes-AMG? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the battle for the title of the fastest production car at the Nürburgring is far from over.

Stay tuned, because if there’s one thing we’ve learned about John Hennessey and his team, it’s that they never back down from a challenge.
