Brainchild of Italian designer and architect Luca Trazzi. It’s taken three years to bring this vision to life, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.

The term ‘Sonderwunsch’ is your word of the day, and it perfectly captures what’s happened here: “Dear Porsche, could you please build me a chopped-top Speedster based on a 993, with a 221 kW (300 bhp) engine in the back? Grazie. Oh, and make it extremely yellow.” And that’s precisely what Porsche did.

This isn’t just any 911 Speedster; it’s a 993, the missing link in Porsche’s Speedster lineage. Although Porsche built Speedsters for the 911 models before and after the 993, this generation largely missed out—until now. Only two others exist: a narrow-body automatic built in 1995 for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and a widebody 4S-based model built for Jerry Seinfeld in 2001. Now, this bespoke beauty joins that exclusive club, powered by a 221 kW (300 bhp) air-cooled 3.8-litre flat-six engine from the 993 Carrera RS.

Originally a 1994-model 993 Cabriolet, Trazzi’s Speedster has undergone a meticulous transformation by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch team. The car now features a shorter windscreen, a classic bulbous rear deck, and conical door mirrors inspired by the 1960s. Modern touches include new headlamps with the four-dot LED running lights seen on contemporary Porsches.

The Otto yellow and black theme runs throughout, from the pinstriped 18-inch Turbo rims to the instrument cluster inside. While the interior retains its classic charm, it’s been updated with Apple CarPlay—because if you’re going to spend years perfecting a car, you might as well make it functional for the 21st century. With the weather in Italy practically begging for a car like this, we can only hope Trazzi plans to take his Speedster out for some proper drives. But if he ever fancies a challenge, there’s even a sleek, sweptback roof for those unpredictable British B-roads.

And here’s the kicker: Porsche says this won’t be the last Sonderwunsch project. New requests from clients will be handled by either Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur or Porsche Classic, and if you’re after something truly dynamic, the RS team at Weissach can even tweak the driving dynamics to your liking.

So, here’s the real question: if you could commission your own ultimate Porsche one-off, what would it be? Have you got a ‘Sonderwunsch’ that marries Porsche’s beauty, power, and originality into something truly unique? The possibilities are endless, and as this yellow dream proves, Porsche is more than happy to make those dreams come true.
