And if you’re wondering why it looks familiar, think Steve McQueen…

Another day, another reimagined Porsche 911. But wait, because Oxfordshire firm Theon Design’s latest bespoke Porsche 911 is the first to have been commissioned by a UK customer, and the more of these things on our shores the better, we say.

Having started life as a 964 from 1990, GBR001 was stripped back to bare metal before restoration commenced. It now wears an all carbon body – doors aside which remain steel for protection – with each panel digitised and 3D-modelled to ensure it's a perfect fit. The result, we’re told, is a wet weight of just 1,163kg. Yep, that’ll do.

Of course, Theon Design didn’t just stop there. The 3.8-litre flat-six engine has also been given the special treatment – think open air intakes, independent throttle bodies, a single mass flywheel, you get the gist – and now outputs 390bhp and 400Nm of torque.

All that power is sent to the rear wheels via an upgraded six-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential, while a ceramic coated exhaust should provide all the noise.

Inside, GBR001 is finished in ‘Phantom’ leather and gets an ‘Aluminium Interior Pack’, which sees all the plastic switches, handles, vents and more upgraded to cast metal. There’s also a retrimmed steering wheel, woven leather Recaro seats complete with body coloured trim, and many modern conveniences including climate control and a stereo. Not that you’ll need the latter.

Oh, and that body colour we mentioned? You might recognise it as Slate Grey – the same colour as Steven McQueen’s iconic 911 in the film Le Mans. Needless to say, we’re fans.

No word on price, but if previous reimagined Porsche 911s to have emerged from Theon Design’s doors are anything to go by, you’re looking at north of R7.2 million.
