Later in the upcoming month, Ford will make a crazy electric pickup comeback to Pikes Peak. Since March, the Blue Oval has been tease the “EV demonstrator.” Today, the manufacturer reveals the truck's full design and reveals that it can produce three tons of downforce at 240 kilometers per hour.
The figure will be reached by the SuperTruck Demonstrator's similarly insane aerodynamics. Huge goose-neck wings that dangle off the back of the low-slung truck soar above the cab's roof. It also features a large rear diffuser, vents behind the front wheels, and a broad front splitter. Ford and STARD collaborated to design the vehicle.
Ford only disclosed the amount of downforce that its electrified SuperTruck will produce. It does, however, share certain stylistic cues with the SuperVan 4.2 that the carmaker ran in the hillclimb competition last year.
That was also equipped with an aggressive aero package and a large wing to help it stay rooted during the 156 bends of the track. With three motors, it could generate 1,400 horsepower. We'll have to wait for additional information, but the new truck may have a layout similar to this. 1,972 horsepower was produced by four motors in the Ford SuperVan 4.0.
Ford has produced two electric demonstrators. Earlier this year, it introduced the F-150 Switchgear, which was developed in association with RTR. Based on the production Lightning platform, the business added composite body panels, skid plates, and a redesigned suspension to improve its off-road capabilities.
Ford is probably going to keep making small-scale teases about the truck until the 102nd iteration of the event kicks off on June 23. Probably between now and when it runs up the hill, we'll find out more information. The driver of the Ford will be Romain Dumas, the current Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record holder. However, there won't be just one carmaker there using an EV: Blue Oval. Later in June, a redesigned Hyundai Ioniq 5 will also take on the renowned hillclimb track.
