The U8 Premium Edition is unveiled by BYD's upscale sub-brand in China. 3.6 seconds from 0 to 100 kph on land

We told you about the Yangwang U9 earlier this year; it was an all-electric Chinese supercar that could safely travel on just three wheels by bunny-hopping thanks to its sophisticated suspension system. We first believed it to be the wackiest sighting of the year, but today we're introducing the Yangwang U8 to the globe.

The U8, the second vehicle shown by BYD's upscale sub-brand, is an electric SUV that generates 1,184 horsepower using four motors—one for each wheel—and extremely sophisticated independent torque vectoring. As a consequence, the U8 can turn a tank properly and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds while spinning all four wheels. Should come in handy on the school run. Similar to the U9 supercar, there is something else dubbed the "DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System" that enables three-wheeled driving in the case of a tyre blowout.

Oh, and in case you were concerned about range, there is also a 2.0-liter turbo engine on board to serve as a range extender; therefore, with a full tank of gas and charged batteries, you'll manage 1000 kilometres without a stop.

Surprisingly, we are informed that China will begin receiving supplies in October of this year. For those not keeping track, it will be here in five days. On earth, how?

Anyhow, those initial deliveries will be of the U8 Premium Edition, which Yangwang's domestic market estimates will cost over £123,000 for. It appears that the U8 will come with all of the cutting-edge technology as standard equipment, including an amazing "emergency flotation" feature that assures the U8 can float on water for up to 30 minutes. Yes, this enormous range-expanding SUV can actually transform into a boat.

The technology reportedly shuts off the engine, opens the sunroof, covers the windows, and allows you to cross rivers when on off-road excursions. It then reportedly spins the wheels to move you along at 4 kph. Bonkers.

The U8 will rapid charge at up to 110kW, allowing for a 30 to 80% top-up in 18 minutes when driving a typical electric SUV. There are three wireless charging pads beneath that support 50kW charging if you're feeling lazy and don't want to fuss with cords. In addition, it can distribute 6kW of charge to other devices via vehicle-to-load capabilities.

Nappa leather, sapele wood, speakers, and a staggering number of displays are jammed throughout the inside. Just count the number of screens there, please. The dash alone has two 23.6-inch panels on either side and a 12.8-inch OLED centre screen.
