The electric Prelude Concept appears ready for mass manufacturing. Now give it to us.

Who's seated now, people? At the Japan Mobility Show, Honda unveiled a shocking new product named Prelude. Admire this stunning Honda Prelude Concept; Nellie, it truly appears to be production-ready.

What specifics about this automobile are there? We will be upfront and state that things are thin, at least for the time being. really thin. Honda's concept presentation concluded with the Prelude revelation, and no information about the engine was discussed throughout the presentation. The only information mentioned during the talk was that it is electric and is intended to combine driving enjoyment and electrification for future Honda adventures. Other than that, not much else was discussed. That's up to you to decide.

Our eyes perceive a car that doesn't truly appear like a concept, even though Honda keeps us in the dark about the Prelude Concept. Other than the absence of a grille, the face isn't all that different from a Civic. The body lines are blocky-free but symmetrical, and the factory-styled 20-inch wheels reveal the Brembo brakes. The cameras have been replaced with real side mirrors, and the fastback is adorned with a small but noticeable spoiler. The all-black windows, which give the impression that there is nothing to see inside, are the single feature that shouts idea.

So, the key question at hand is: Will Honda really construct it? Again, the business is still quite secretive about specifics, but during the Prelude's introduction, Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe made some insightful comments. The speaker emphasized the company's dedication to the 2022 sports vehicles, stating that this idea "will become the prelude for our future model which will inherit the 'joy of driving' into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda's unalterable sports mindset." The word "prelude" is used in lowercase here since it is the basis for future Honda performance cars rather than the name of the automobile.

To be honest, Honda could do worse than bring back a legendary performance brand from its history. When the first generation Prelude was introduced to the market in 1978, it revolutionized front-wheel drive performance. When the Prelude eventually vanished from the scene in 2001, it was the first Honda with a sunroof and had a maximum output of 200 horsepower in the US and 217 horsepower in Japan.

Would there be space for a new Prelude EV today? It may make sense as a fun, reasonably priced sports coupe if it had a single motor for the front wheels, a small battery pack to assist keep the weight under control, and an output of about 300 horsepower. Honda, make it happen.
