Alpine’s gearing up to shake things up once again

The French performance marque has confirmed that it will unveil the A390_β concept car at the Paris Motor Show next month, with an online reveal scheduled for 11 October. Much like the A290 hot hatch teaser, Alpine’s whetting our appetites with a ‘beta’ version before the full-fat production model arrives later.

The wait for the production A390 won’t be too long, though. It’s set to roll off the line at Dieppe in 2025, and based on Alpine’s track record, the final version is likely to look pretty close to this A390_β concept. And from what we’ve seen, it’s shaping up to be something quite special. A coupé-SUV, in fact.

Yes, the A390 is Alpine’s entry into the increasingly popular coupé-SUV segment, squaring up against the likes of the Volkswagen ID.5 and Cupra Tavascan. Alpine’s calling it a ‘sport fastback,’ and judging by the teaser image, it looks ready to mix sleek performance with a more rugged, jacked-up stance. While the specifics of the powertrain remain under wraps for now, we do know it’ll be fully electric.

But will it feel like an Alpine? The brand’s been synonymous with lightweight, agile sports cars for years so there’s a fair bit riding on the A390 to live up to that legacy. Fear not, though, because Alpine is also bringing its Alpenglow Hy6, a hydrogen-powered prototype racer, to Paris. Plus, they’ll showcase new customisation options for the beloved A110. So, while the A390 may be a departure from Alpine’s traditional playbook, the brand’s performance DNA is clearly still in full force.

As for the A390, we’ll have to wait for more details on power, weight, and performance, but it’s looking promising. If Alpine can inject even a fraction of the A110’s spirit into this all-electric coupé-SUV, it could be a serious contender in the EV performance world. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
