with a twist...

Shelby American has brought the iconic Mustang Shelby GT350 roaring back into the spotlight, but don't call Ford about it, this one's entirely a Shelby project. With a choice of naturally aspirated or supercharged powertrains, an upgraded suspension, and up to 830 horsepower (619 kW), the 2025 Shelby GT350 is here to deliver a modern muscle car experience with a nostalgic twist.

This latest GT350 isn’t just a tribute act. It’s a complete Shelby overhaul, with a little help from Michigan-based Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports. The car is dripping with Shelby branding, from exterior badging to the cabin, where "Shelby Performance" is etched on the supercharged models’ intake covers. Yet, the Mustang heritage isn’t entirely erased, as the radiator cover still bears the classic Mustang logo.

Instead of the flat-plane crank 5.2-liter V8 that howled in the last GT350, Shelby has turned its attention to the versatile 5.0-liter Coyote engine. Buyers can go for the naturally aspirated version producing 480 hp (358 kW), or strap on a Whipple supercharger for an eye-watering 810 hp (604 kW). Opt for the GT350R - a track-focused variant and the output climbs to a staggering 830 hp (619 kW).

The GT350R is a proper race car for the road, equipped with a carbon-fiber interior "tub," an integrated roll cage, fully adjustable suspension, Alcon racing brakes, and enough hardcore bits to make it feel at home on any circuit. Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports plays a vital role here, collaborating with Shelby to develop a dedicated Trans Am racing version.

If you’re not looking to hunt lap records, the standard GT350 still delivers thrills while remaining daily-driver friendly. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission, and the suspension strikes a balance between track capability and real-world comfort. As Vince LaViolette, Shelby American’s vice president, puts it:

"We increased horsepower by almost 70 percent, tuned the suspension, opened up the exhaust, smoothed the aerodynamics, and gave it more sex appeal. The styling is based on functionality, giving the Shelby GT350 a purposeful look."

Shelby is keeping this one exclusive, with just 562 units planned, matching the production total of the original 1965 GT350. An additional 36 GT350Rs will also be built, alongside a limited number of international-spec cars.

Deliveries are set to begin later this year, with the cars sold through Shelby-authorized Ford dealers.
