A patriotic ode to speed: Meet the GTD Spirit of America

What are the chances of spotting a Ford Mustang GTD out in the wild? Slim. Now imagine the odds of catching a glimpse of a GTD Spirit of America - slimmer still. Yet, here it is: a special-edition tribute to red, white, and blue speed, unveiled just before the 2025 Detroit Auto Show.

The Spirit of America treatment is all about looks, but when the base car already serves up 815 bhp (608 kW) and a completely bespoke chassis, visual flair is more than enough. Draped in Performance White, this Mustang wears narrow red and blue centreline racing stripes with just the right touch of Americana. The spoiler plates and side mirrors pop in red, while massive white "Mustang" lettering sprawls across the back of the rear wing. Prefer exposed carbon fibre mirrors? That’s an option too, tying in neatly with the abundance of bare carbon fibre throughout the GTD’s aggressive bodywork.

Step inside, and it’s a festival of patriotic detailing. Leather seats come with black inserts, white trim, and a red centre stripe, accented by blue contrast stitching across the cabin. Titanium finishes bring a motorsport edge, featured on the shift paddles, shift ring, and a unique Spirit of America badge.

Ford is tight-lipped on production numbers for this limited-edition model. GTD production itself will be scarce, with estimates hovering around 600 units. Pricing? Don’t expect anything under the standard GTD’s already eye-watering $325,000, especially since each Spirit of America includes the optional Performance Package. This kit is designed to chase a sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap time, if you happen to be in Germany and fancy turning a few laps in your road-legal GT racer.

“Mustang GTD is the pinnacle of Mustang performance,” said Mustang GTD Brand Manager Jim Owens. “Mustang GTD Spirit of America celebrates the daring behind that performance.”

For those who appreciate the blend of raw power and American flair, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America will be on display at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show from January 11 to 20. Be warned - this is a rare beast, and sightings will be as fleeting as the blur of its tail lights.
