Performance concept to be revealed at Goodwood using the MG4 XPower’s 429bhp twin-motor powertrain

Oh MG! Not satisfied with announcing a not entirely sensible 429bhp hot hatch version of its crushingly good value MG4, the Chinese-owned brand has dished up this for next week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

This has been dubbed the EX4 concept, and MG is calling it its ‘third high performance’ car after the aforementioned hot hatch and the much-teased-but-yet-to-be-built Cyberster electric sports car.

Apparently the concept will pay homage to the Metro 6R4 rally car of the 1980s, which explains the huge front spoiler and rear wing in the shadowy teaser images above.

It’s been designed by the same London team that had a hand in the creation of the Cyberster, and we’re told it’ll wear a ‘distinctive’ livery for its big reveal at Goodwood’s First Glance paddock on Thursday 13 July.

That’s pretty much all we know about it for now, except that it’ll harness the same 429bhp twin-motor powertrain deployed in the XPower hot hatch.

That does 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds… wonder what this’ll achieve with a dollop of downforce thrown in for good measure?

Come on MG, fire it up the hill immediately.
