Beauty comes at a steep price

Let’s cut to the chase: this is no electric 911 restomod. What we have here is a high-revving, all-mechanical masterpiece, a homage to two legends – the 2.7 RS and GT3 RS 4.0 – reborn as the ‘European RS’. Crafted by the artisans at Thornley Kelham, only 25 of these beauties will be made, each taking over 6,000 hours to perfect and priced at a cool £580,000.

Underneath those classic lines, three air-cooled flat-six engines are on offer, displacing 3.6, 3.8, and 4.0 litres, with power output ranging from 390 to 406hp. That grunt is channelled to the tarmac via a six-speed manual gearbox and a set of Michelin Pilot 4S tyres, delivering a driving experience that's as analog as it gets.

Thornley Kelham didn’t just stop at bolting in an engine. They’ve re-engineered these powerhouses with billet aluminium cylinder heads, forged pistons, new camshafts, and individual throttle bodies, pushing the redline to a spine-tingling 10,000rpm. And the soundtrack? Courtesy of a custom Inconel and titanium exhaust system, it’s bound to be pure Hans Zimmer magic.

Performance figures? No official 0-100 km/h times or top speeds yet, but it’s safe to say this will leave many a tailgater in their Teutonic saloons biting the dust.

The suspension setup is no less impressive. Modern GT3 wishbones, JRZ Motorsport coilovers, and Eibach springs, with the option for adaptive damping, make the cut. Carbon ceramic brakes, a revised steering rack, and a Wavetrac limited-slip differential round out the package, promising an exhilarating ride on your favourite twisty backroads.

And the weight? With no electric gubbins to lug around, the RS sheds a significant 300 kg compared to the donor 964, tipping the scales at a lithe 1,070 kg. Every gram has been scrutinised – even the rear windows are replaced with polycarbonate, whatever that is, but it sounds delightfully lightweight.

Visually, the RS is a stunner, sitting pretty on 18-inch Fikse alloys. The bodywork, mounted on a brand-new chassis, has been lowered by 51 mm, widened by 220 mm, and lengthened by 19 mm, with a broader track for added stability in the corners.

Customization is key here, with Thornley Kelham offering a myriad of options to make each RS unique. Inside, you'll find Connolly leather and Alcantara upholstery, carbon Recaro seats, and a Momo steering wheel. The vintage switchgear remains, but the electrics have been thoroughly modernised.

Other highlights include an adjustable roll cage, pulley straps instead of conventional door handles, and good old-fashioned window winders. Tech is minimal but practical, with Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity ensuring you stay connected while enjoying this analog marvel.
