771-bhp hybrid heavyweight debuts with a redesigned and improved V8 engine.

The renowned philosopher Bertrand Russell once remarked, "There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge." The large guy was spot on when he said that knowing that the upgraded 4.0-liter V8 Bentley Continental GT Speed forgoes a conventional vacuum system won't improve your life in any anyway. However, knowing this is enjoyable.

Additionally, this delicious beast is now a hybrid thanks to an electric motor tucked away in the gearbox that eliminates turbo latency and makes it possible for two far simpler single-scroll turbochargers. They may operate hotter because they are simpler, which essentially results in an extremely large explosion.

Like, 771bhp of power. It is the most powerful Bentley ever made. Bentley has increased power and torque over the whole rpm range in what is dubbed the "Ultra Performance Hybrid," making the boom incredibly accessible. In fact, this V8 hybrid drivetrain, when paired with an electronic limited slip differential and a dual clutch eight-speed automatic transmission, produces an incredible 1000 Nm of torque—more than the legendary W12 ever could.

Russell went on to say that everything you're excellent at makes you happy. Furthermore, the new Bentley Continental GT Speed excels at speed. After all, the name says it all. It takes 3.1 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kph. Vmax has a powerful 334 kph.

Do you want more interesting but pointless trivia? The large Bentley can go up to 50 miles at a speed of 140 kph on energy alone because to the electric motor's 450 Nm of power. The rear axle is equipped with a 25.9kWh battery that can be fully recharged in less than three hours. The battery is positioned to provide nearly ideal weight distribution of 49:51, which is a first for the Conti series. However, considering that this is a Bentley, the Coupe weighs 2,459 kg.

Additionally, adding a powerful V8 to a little e-motor results in a total range of 534 miles, which is rather useful if your destination is 857 kilometers away. And with to the new Conti's 48V anti-roll control and dual-valve dampers, that ride will be more comfortable than it was before. (In fact, compared to the previous Conti GT, 68% of this fourth-generation vehicle is new.)

Bentley asserts that this is sufficient to provide the "best Continental ride comfort to date." A vehicle renowned for having top-notch damping has recently gotten... damper. That being said, it will undoubtedly perform brilliantly if you decide that quickness is crucial, as we discovered in a prototype on a somewhat wet track.

Bentley's 'Dynamic' mode (also known as "rear axle slip") has added a lighthearted touch, sharpened the steering feel, and completely unbridled it when it comes to full power drifts with the 'advanced' ESC totally off. Alternatively, "cornering stance can be balanced on-throttle by the driver," according to Bentley.

Not rushing at all? The 2017 Continental has evolved into a really beautiful vehicle, so pay attention to the nuances. The primary modification is the single headlight configuration, which appears to be a first for a Bentley since the 1950s. The new Conti maintains the aggressive styling of the previous model, which Bentley characterizes as having "the stance of a resting beast." Just that.

The entire vehicle has also been "visually cleaned," which makes it appear more timeless. A new bumper, a new set of taillights, and an aerodynamic boot lip are all part of the extensive overhaul of the rear.

Naturally, the enormous 22-inch wheels conceal enormous brakes, and you may hide within a cabin furnished with Bentley's customary high-end materials. and seats with 20-way adjustment. Bentley highlights the new "precision quilt pattern," updated chrome specifications, and Mulliner's ability to create a more customized interior atmosphere, should you so want.

The 12.3-inch high-definition spinning display allows you to access three different audio settings, each with varying degrees of power, to enhance the ambiance. The possibly pointless but really enjoyable fact that you have 30 alternatives for interior illumination may also be used to change the mood.

Since this is a modern Bentley, of course there is an abundance of technology. In addition to CarPlay and Android Auto, the vehicle can drive itself in "semi-assisted" mode and analyze its surroundings.

There are plenty of activities to squander your time on, but as Russell mentioned, time spent doing so is enjoyable. Thus, why not throw it away on the GTC Speed, which was unveiled with the Coupe?

It is only slightly slower—0 to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds, with a maximum speed of 284 kph—but it offers you access to an unlimited sky in just 19 seconds thanks to a seven-bow fabric canopy that can open and close at up to 48 kph.
