With the release of the second-generation X2 last year, BMW significantly increased the size of the crossover-coupe hybrid over its predecessor. Some of us were left wondering if the X4 would still be relevant in the company's rather congested portfolio. Now that we know the solution, it will vanish. Business representatives have informed our colleagues at Motor1 Italy that the competitor Mercedes GLC Coupe won't survive to see another generation.
BMW argues that since the X2 is now an adult, there is no longer place in the lineup for the X4. Considering how much their prices have come down, there's no reason to maintain them in the lineup. The big-boy X6 is available to those who want a more luxurious and roomier SUV than the coupe stick.
After the X4 disappears, the German luxury brand claims the new X3 satisfies your demand for something in-between. BMW's best-selling vehicle in 2023 will still have RWD foundations and a six-cylinder engine in the new M50, unlike the X2, which has a front-wheel-drive architecture and four-cylinder engines.
When BMW plans to stop producing the X4 is unknown. Given that the updated X3 will begin to be delivered later this year, it seems likely that the coupe-styled variant won't be around for very long. It is improbable that the model will endure into 2025. Although buyers in this market segment can't really tell the difference between front- and rear-wheel drive, the X2 isn't quite a substitute. Although it's not something we're used to hearing about, we're not really upset that an SUV is getting the chop.
Even if the X4 with internal combustion engines is going out of production, there may be a covert replacement. According to BMWBLOG, a completely electric iX4 is expected to debut on the Neue Klasse platform sometime around 2027. By 2028, the Munich-based brand promises to introduce a minimum of six electric vehicles running on the new, specialized chassis. Along with the already announced iX3 crossover scheduled for 2025 and the i3 sedan for 2026, the iX4 may be one of them
