Toyota’s motorsport footprint spans just about everything, from its fresh collaboration with Haas in Formula 1 and entries in NASCAR and Le Mans, to grassroots motorsport with the GR86 single-make GR Cup. Now, Toyota has unveiled its next contender, a new race-ready GR Corolla TC, revealed at a media event at the GR Garage in Mooresville, North Carolina. This new addition sits neatly between the GR86 Cup car and the Supra GT4 in Toyota’s motorsport lineup.
Based on the road-going GR Corolla, the TC racer is built to compete in the TC America series, which kicks off in 2025. It starts life as a production GR Corolla, powered by the same fiery 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. The road version already delivers an impressive 300hp (224kW) and, for 2025, all GR Corollas will produce 400Nm of torque. While Toyota hasn’t confirmed exact power figures for the race-spec version, it’s unlikely they’ll deviate too far from the production car’s numbers.
Where the GR Corolla TC really comes into its own is in the motorsport-specific upgrades. Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division has fitted it with serious stopping power, including six-piston front and two-piston rear brakes from Alcon. Handling is sharpened by custom MacPherson struts and dual-adjustable shocks from JRi. The race car also benefits from a Bosch Motorsports electronics system that manages the drivetrain, power distribution, and ABS.
Inside, it’s all about track safety and precision. The cabin is kitted out with an FIA-approved roll cage, OMP fiberglass seat with a six-point harness, and an electronically activated fire-extinguishing system, also from OMP. Aerodynamics are dialled up to the max, with a large rear wing, rear diffuser, and a front splitter providing plenty of downforce.
The GR Corolla TC will compete in the newly merged TC America series, combining the previous TCX and TC categories into one thrilling field of cars. Toyota is keeping the finer details, like the final specs and pricing, under wraps for now, but rest assured, this GR Corolla TC is set to bring the heat when it hits the track in 2025. Stay tuned for what could be Toyota’s next grassroots racing star!
