According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg and Bradley Cooper are teaming up to remake the old movie Bullitt. Cooper will portray the titular Frank Bullitt, a detective. They'll both work as producers. The role was played by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film adaptation.
According to rumors, the next Bullitt won't be a remake of the first one. According to Deadline, Cooper and Spielberg started debating a fresh approach to the movie during the pandemic lockdown.
The script was written by Josh Singer. Prior to that, he penned The Post, which Spielberg also directed. He also wrote Maestro, a future biopic about the composer Leonard Bernstein that will star and be directed by Bradley Cooper.
A San Francisco Police Department investigator protects a mafia informant in the original Bullitt until hitmen kill the mobster. The lengthy vehicle pursuit between McQueen and two villains in a black Dodge Charger is the true high point of the movie. The view is breathtaking even today.
When word got out that Spielberg was working on the next Bullitt movie in February 2022, the first hints about it started to surface. Cooper wasn't involved at the time, and the film lacked a writer.
There is still no word on the start of production or a possible release date.
Following the premiere of the movie, the Bullitt Mustang rose to fame. The 1968 Ford utilized in a movie fetched $3.4 million at auction in 2020, a Mustang auction record. The renowned car vanished for a while, then it reappeared in 2018.
Ford is aware of the significance of the movie to the Mustang saga. The automaker debuted the Bullitt GT for the 2001 model year with a more potent 4.6-liter V8, lowered suspension, and movie-inspired styling. For the 2008 and 2009 models, there was an additional version. In 2019 it returned once more.
