MST Cars has revealed the progress it’s made on its latest and perhaps tastiest project yet: an Escort Mk1 Evolution. These new digital renders showcase classic lines with new bubble arches hugging some chunky 17-inch rims.
We’re told the redesigned carbon-fibre wheel arches will be coupled with other carbon fibre elements, and MST also plans on using the latest 2.8-litre Millington Diamond engine.
That naturally-aspirated four-pot race engine will push out 370bhp and 406 Nm of torque. Nice.
When speaking with TopGear.com about engine choices, MST director Carwyn Ellis said: “We like to keep things British. Also, it’s the ultimate rally engine, the Millington. [Those engines] give the performance of a rally car, but they’re road-legal." Enough to persuade us.
The Millington Diamond engine comes as standard with ‘the ultimate spec car’, though MST – founded in 2020 – also uses a 2.5-litre Ford Duratec unit, good for around 200bhp. It's also building a 6R4. which is looking pretty fantastic.
These builds don’t come cheap, mind. Prices for a Mk1 touring car start at a mouth-drying £100,000. How much it'll want for the MST Cars Mk1 Evo is yet to be revealed. Fingers crossed for a lottery win, kids.
