A Piece of Racing History with Five Wins and a Record-Breaking Pole Position

It’s not every day you get the chance to own a genuine Formula 1 car, let alone one driven by the legendary Michael Schumacher. But now, RM Sotheby’s is offering up something truly extraordinary: the 2006 Ferrari 248, chassis no. 254, which Schumacher piloted to five victories during his final full season with Ferrari.

This isn’t just any F1 machine; it’s a car steeped in motorsport history. Schumacher claimed wins at the United States, European, and German Grands Prix, along with three second-place finishes, four fastest laps, and three pole positions. Notably, this is the car in which Schumacher surpassed Ayrton Senna’s pole position record, one of the most iconic milestones in his illustrious career. That feat, achieved in 2006, came during Schumacher’s last season before he (temporarily) hung up his helmet.

Underneath the carbon-fibre skin of the 248 beats Ferrari’s first V8 engine in an F1 car since 1964. Displacing 2.4 litres, it initially churned out 730 bhp (544 kW), but by the end of the season, Ferrari had coaxed out a fearsome 785 bhp (586 kW) from the high-revving unit. This raw power was delivered through a seamless-shift gearbox, allowing Schumacher to fight at the sharp end of the grid in what would be one of his most memorable campaigns.

The car’s current owner acquired it from Ferrari in December 2007, and it comes with Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification, confirming that all the major components retain their original, matching numbers. While RM Sotheby’s hasn’t listed an expected price, it’s safe to say this piece of motorsport history won’t come cheap. If you’re looking to make a serious bid, you’ll want to mark your calendar for November 14 when the auction opens.

This Ferrari isn’t just a car, it’s a symbol of Schumacher’s dominance, a tangible piece of F1 history, and a dream for any serious collector or fan of the Prancing Horse.
