But not what you'd expect

This weekend, under the dazzling lights of Singapore, Mercedes-AMG Petronas will look a little… different. The Silver Arrows are going green, but not in the eco-warrior sense you might be hoping for. Instead, it’s a nod to their long-time sponsor, Petronas, who’s celebrating its 50th anniversary.

For this race (and the practice and qualifying sessions leading up to it), Mercedes will sport a striking emerald green livery, a homage to the oil giant that’s fueled the team’s F1 campaign since its return to the grid in 2010. So, if you have trouble telling a Mercedes from an Aston Martin this weekend, don’t worry—you’re not alone.

Why Singapore? Well, with Malaysia no longer on the F1 calendar, Singapore is now the closest race to Petronas’ headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. It’s the perfect setting for this one-off celebration, with the night race providing the ideal backdrop for the shimmering green machine.

"The livery looks incredible," said Lewis Hamilton, who’s clearly just as excited as the rest of us to see the car in its fresh colours. “I can’t wait to see it in the garage tomorrow and get behind the wheel on Friday. I’m sure the fans will love seeing it up close, and it’ll shine brightly under the lights of Singapore."

Team principal Toto Wolff chimed in, too, noting the significance of this moment. “This livery not only celebrates Petronas’ 50 years, but it’s a reflection of the integral role they’ve played in our team’s success. With exciting challenges like the introduction of sustainable fuels in 2026, we’re looking forward to many more years of partnership.”

Ah yes, sustainable fuels. Along with hybrid engines, these cleaner power sources will arrive as part of F1’s 2026 shake-up, marking a new era of the sport. But for now, all eyes are on the emerald green Mercedes, ready to light up Singapore and perhaps stir up a bit of confusion along the way.
