An tribute to the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, which is being created from the ground up and will be on sale next year, has been unveiled by German engineering company HWA.

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder Cosworth-tuned engine powering the original Evo II has been replaced by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 provided by Mercedes for HWA. It is coupled to a manual gearbox with six speeds.

In "standard" configuration, the rear-wheel drive Evo generates 443 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque, with a peak speed of 270 kph. Alternatively, purchasers can choose the Affalterbach performance package, which increases performance to 493 horsepower and a top speed of 305 kph.

Though its design does have more aggressive elements than the original vehicle, it still has a taller, larger rear bumper for better aerodynamics and larger, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels housed in wheel arches inspired by DTM racing.

Like the original Evo II, the Evo also has a front axle lift that raises the front bumper and splitter by 30 mm. Six-piston 380mm discs up front and 360mm discs at the back provide braking power. There are LED lights on the front and back of the vehicle.

Digital instruments within the Evo are modeled after LCD screens from the 1990s and are compatible with smartphones. Recaro seats and a road-legal fire extinguisher are also included.

Because it offered the "optimum solution of low weight, compact packaging, and agile handling," HWA chose the Mercedes V6. 1360 kg is the kerb weight.

HWA CTO Gordian von Schöning stated, "Electric propulsion could have been a viable route given our expertise in zero-emission drivetrains."

But it was clear from the project's initial consumer consultations that the owners want an internal combustion engine—something that would genuinely evoke a sense of driving passion.

There will only be 100 Evo models made, with prices starting at €714,000, or £603.799 in the UK. However, a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty is included.
