When you think of Manhart, you usually picture brutally tuned BMWs, slammed to the ground and growling with intent. But now, the German tuning maestros have turned their attention to the GR Supra, the distant cousin of the BMW Z4. And since both cars share the same ‘B58’ 3.0-litre straight-six and that slick eight-speed automatic, it’s no surprise they’ve decided to have a go at this Japanese coupé. And what a go it is.
Enter the ‘GR 550’ — a name that suggests serious business. That familiar turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, which normally churns out around 250 kW, has been taken to a whole new level. Manhart has bolted on an even beefier turbo, added a part-aluminium radiator to keep things cool, and thrown in a robust carbon fibre air intake to gulp down more air. Of course, they’ve also had a fiddle with the ECU — because what’s a tuner without a bit of remapping magic? The result? A mind-bending 405 kW and 770 Nm of torque.
And it's not just about the numbers. The soundtrack from the GR 550 is now more rock concert than symphony, thanks to a stainless steel exhaust system and blacked-out quad tailpipes that mean business. There's even a valve control system to adjust the car's roar, perfect for when you need to dial down the drama — like when you're creeping through a quiet neighbourhood or out on a Saturday morning grocery run.
Manhart hasn't stopped there. They've dropped the Supra with three-way coilover suspension, giving it a lower, more aggressive stance. Then, they've fitted a carbon-fibre body kit and slapped on a set of Concave One wheels, which look like they're ready to eat the asphalt alive. Up top, there’s a subtle rear wing above tweaked light covers, all accented with sharp black vinyl that cuts through the Supra’s crisp white paint job.
Of course, if you want to go wild, Manhart is all ears. Fancy a GR 550 with a ride height of one metre and a body kit made of pepperoni? Well, you can pitch that idea to them. But maybe give them a bit of notice; genius takes time, after all.
In short, the GR 550 isn't just a Supra with a few tweaks. It's a statement — one that says, "I can outrun a 911 GT3 RS and look good doing it."
