Koenigsegg estimated four years ago that the Jesko Absolut hypercar might hit 330 mph. It will now at last find out.

Christian Von Koenigsegg, the company's founder and CEO, projected that the Jesko Absolut, the company's newest hypercar, will reach a peak speed of 330 mph (531 kph) back in 2020. That would surpass industry titans like the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ and the Hennessey Venom F5 to become the fastest production vehicle on the globe. Koenigsegg now intends to verify the accuracy of such simulations.

Koenigsegg stated that he intended to break the top speed record with the Jesko Absolut at some point in 2024 in an interview with the Swedish-language website Carup.

"Hopefully we can go for the record already this year," he added. "Although it is not always simple, we are now searching for a straight stretch that is sufficiently lengthy and where traffic may be stopped. Most likely, it won't take place in Sweden but somewhere else."

Those who have followed past efforts at breaking the fastest production car record will recall that Koenigsegg used an Agera RS to establish the record in 2017 with an average speed of 277.9 mph. Rather of a racetrack or runway strip, Koenigsegg conducted the test on a blocked section of public roadway in the midst of the Nevada desert.

In addition, Koenigsegg set a speed in both directions and took an average, which was sufficient to obtain the record validated by Guinness, in contrast to rivals who only set their speeds in one direction or with a vehicle that was not approved for use on public roads.

"Bugatti has only driven in one direction and with a car in a specification that customers cannot buy," Koenigsegg stated to Carup. "A vehicle that is not approved for use on public roads established the record for even SSC. We broke the record with the Koenigsegg Agera using a production vehicle, and we'll try to break it again using a Jesko series vehicle that has been given the all-clear to be used on public roads."

The Jesko Absolut was built with straight-line speed in mind. It is powered by the same 1500-hp twin-turbo V8 engine as its sibling vehicle.

"So far, it has not been fully explored exactly how fast the car is," Koenigsegg states. "With the minimum frontal area and a drag coefficient of just 0.278, power curve calculations and the car's gearing point to a potential peak speed considerably north of 500 km/h [310 mph]. We now want to demonstrate the car's actual capabilities."
