The upgraded Lancia will feature a KERS system

You probably already know about Kimera Automobili if you're a lover of Lancia. And if you know Kimera, you'll be thrilled to hear that a brand-new tribute to the Lancia 037 is being built for Pikes Peak.

The Italian company debuted the EVO37, a modified 037, as its first action back in 2021. The EVO38, a four-wheel drive 037 with over 600 horsepower and a clever suspension system, was then presented.

So, you're thinking that the third car that climbs hills will be called the EVO39, correct? False. The K39 will be its official name because it isn't a restomod at all. Yes, the car set to compete at Pikes Peak will be entirely new, with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and a twin-turbo V8 engine that shares similarities with the Ferrari engine used in the Lancia LC2 endurance racer. Tell us if you are enthusiastic now if you weren't before.

Since the K39 is a completely new design, Kimera is unable to directly mention the Lancia or the 037; instead, it refers to it as “the third act in its homage to a lost generation of iconic cars” and “a recreation of the famed 'Silhouette' of the Martini Racing team."

It seems like a lot of work has gone into creating the insane aero kit needed for Pikes Peak in a virtual wind tunnel, and we've been informed that carbon fiber makes up every panel. The suspension will include push-rod setups at the front and back, and the engine will also be load-bearing. Oh, and to get the power-to-weight ratio up to 1:1, Kimera is now considering using an F1-style KERS system with MGU-H and MGU-K units. Yes, that sounds like more than 1,000 horsepower.

The somewhat lyrical press statement from Kimera regarding Pikes Peak and the Volkswagen ID.R's overall record states, "The supremacy now belongs to an electric car, whose performance is not penalised by the rarefaction of the air."

"There's no doubt that the iconic new Silhouette's engine will produce noise and be audible during its ascent."

Additionally, don't assume that this is a one-time event. According to Kimera, the company is developing a "customer version" of the K39, with a small group of people participating in the Pikes Peak car's testing and development to determine what they would like to see on their own vehicle and what they would want to tone down for the neighborhood track day.
