Three-time W Series champ Jamie Chadwick will compete in the IndyCar support series formerly known as Indy Lights

Andretti Autosport has signed three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick for the 2023 Indy NXT season, the single-seater support series previously known as Indy Lights.

The 24-year-old will become the first female driver to compete in the category full-time since Pippa Mann in 2010, with the Briton set to take part in all 14 events on next year’s calendar.

Chadwick will race alongside fellow Brit Louis Foster and New Zealander Hunter McElrea at Andretti Autosport, with the new season set to begin in St Petersburg, Florida on 5 March.

“I’m hugely excited to be joining Andretti Autosport for the 2023 INDY NXT season with DHL,” said Chadwick. “My aim is always to challenge myself and continue my progression as a driver and this represents not only a big step up but also a big step towards my goal of competing in the highest categories of single seater racing.

“Andretti Autosport’s standing in the sport is second to none and I hope to bring more success to such a prestigious team. I can't wait to get started.”

Meanwhile team CEO and chairman Michael Andretti said: “Andretti Autosport is proud to be supporting Jamie alongside DHL for the 2023 INDY NXT season. Jamie’s successful career speaks for itself, but the INDY NXT series gives Jamie the opportunity to continue her development in a new type of racing.

“We’ve turned out five INDY NXT champions over the years and look forward to continuing our role in developing new talent.”

Chadwick won her third W Series title earlier this year finishing 50 points clear of her closest rival, and will retain her links with the Williams F1 team - where she has been a development driver since 2019 - despite the hop across the Atlantic.

Several Indy Lights champions have gone on to have successful IndyCar careers over the years, with former winners including Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden and Pato O’Ward.
