British Ferrari specialists are punting a one-of-one Fantuzzi-bodied 250 GT Lusso...

Even in the rarefied stratosphere of classic Ferraris, there are special cars. This is one of them: the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso with coachwork by Fantuzzi. And it can be yours… if you’ve got several million quid lying around. Lucky you.

British Ferrari specialist garage GTO Engineering have this very car up for sale. The 1963-vintage example left the factory painted grey, but was renosed in 1965 with better aerodynamics in mind. The work was done by Medardo Fantuzzi, who was designing the bodywork for the owner’s Formula 2 and Formula 3 cars. So, it should be more than just a pretty face.

It’s lived a truly international life, this car. Having begun its career in Italy, it moved to Venezuela, then New York, before having yet more bodywork mods made in the late 1970s. It then spent time in Hawaii before heading to the UK where it languished in storage from 1981 until 2005. Then in 2011, it visited another British Ferrari specialist – DK Engineering – for a complete restoration.

Having been stripped down to a bare chassis, the car was refurbished with new louvres and vents before finally wearing the classic Ferrari shade of Rosso Corsa. It’s since been serviced and maintained in ready-to-drive condition by GTO Engineering – the people who brought you the 250 GT SWB and California ‘Revival’ cars and now working on a carbon-tubbed retro supercar dubbed the Squalo.

So, unlike other Ferrari 250s, there’s no storied racing heritage here, nor Hollywood movie star names in the logbook. But it’s in very smart nick and it doesn’t look the same as all your other billionaire mates’ Sixties Ferraris. Does that make the Fantuzzi car a bit more interesting – and anyone care to guess a value?
