The Next Decade Sees Twice the Hybrid Models from the Korean Automaker

Hyundai is set to shake up its strategy over the next decade by doubling its hybrid lineup from seven to fourteen models. In a recent investor day presentation, the Korean automaker revealed plans to roll out twice as many hybrids, including some under its premium Genesis badge, promising better performance and fuel economy across the board.

While Hyundai remains committed to the electric future — with a target of 21 fully electric models by 2030 — it acknowledges the need to pivot slightly, embracing extended range electric vehicles (EREVs) to serve as a crucial "bridge to full electrification." After all, what's one more acronym in the EV lexicon?

EREVs might just be the ace up Hyundai’s sleeve. Defined by the company as a new breed of electric vehicles capable of traveling over 900 kilometers on a single charge, these machines are geared specifically for the North American and Chinese markets, where range anxiety still rules the roost.

Hyundai CEO Jaehoon Chang explained, “Under the Hyundai Way, we will respond to the market with agility thanks to our unique flexible response system. This approach secures sustainable leadership in an uncertain market and positions the company strategically to create a future centered on mobility and energy.”

Hyundai isn't just talking the talk; it's planning to strengthen its role as a game-changer by expanding beyond traditional car manufacturing into various forms of mobility. The company is also setting its sights on the energy sector, with bold ambitions to lead in the emerging hydrogen economy. As Chang put it, Hyundai aims to "transform into a company that can maintain global top-tier leadership in the era of energy transition."

Hold onto your hats; the Hyundai of tomorrow isn’t just about getting you from A to B. It's about redefining the very concept of mobility.
