The Street Truck Reborn!

Ford has reignited the street truck flame with the 2025 Maverick Lobo, a lower, sportier variant that borrows heavily from its siblings across the Blue Oval family.

When Ford unveiled the 2025 Maverick, it finally answered the call for a hybrid AWD version. But Ford didn’t stop there. Enter the Maverick Lobo, a street-oriented performance truck named after the Spanish word for "Wolf" (also the F-150's moniker in Mexico).

Compared to the standard Maverick, the Lobo sits 12.7mm lower at the front and 28.4mm lower at the rear. It features a stiffened suspension with monotube rear dampers borrowed from the Maverick Tremor but tuned specifically for the Lobo. The roof height has been trimmed by 20.3mm, and those 19-inch black "turbofan" wheels are straight off an Escort RS Cosworth.

The front axle showcases dual-piston brake calipers from the Focus ST, while the quicker steering rack hails from the Kuga (the European Escape). The upper strut mounts and steering rack bushings come courtesy of the Mustang Mach-E. The Lobo also benefits from upgraded cooling components, including a larger radiator, fan, and transmission oil cooler from the 4K Tow Pack.

Ford has equipped its smallest pickup with a dedicated Lobo mode, meant strictly for off-road fun. This mode activates torque vectoring through a twin-clutch rear drive unit and loosens up the stability control system, making it easier to slide the truck around. Ford likens the Lobo mode to the Mustang's track mode.

However, don't expect more power under the hood. The Maverick Lobo retains the turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine, now producing 178kW for 2025, a slight drop from last year. Torque remains steady at 375Nm.

This engine isn’t mated to the usual eight-speed automatic or continuously variable transmission found in other Maverick models. Instead, it's paired with a seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters, derived from the European hot hatch mentioned earlier.

Beyond the mechanical tweaks, the Maverick Lobo boasts some cosmetic upgrades. The retro-flavored wheels are a standout, complemented by a black roof. The rear bumper and rocker moldings are body-colored, while the front fascia is unique to this sporty truck. Inside, you'll find Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accents, adding a splash of flair to the interior.

The Ford Maverick Lobo isn’t just a truck; it’s a bold statement, a nod to the golden age of street trucks, reimagined for today’s enthusiasts.
