Jaguar may be telling you to “forget everything that’s come before” as it steers towards an electric-only future, but not everyone is ready to let go of the past. Case in point: one discerning client who politely asked Jaguar Classic if they could craft not one, but two ultimate versions of what Enzo Ferrari himself once called "The Most Beautiful Car Ever Made".
Welcome to the Jaguar E-Type Commemorative, a pair of Series I E-Types created to celebrate a legacy that refuses to fade. Inspired by the original Commemorative Editions that marked 50 years since the last E-Type rolled off the production line, these two one-off builds were tailored for a client in Southeast Asia. That’s right, they’re the only two in existence with this ultra-exclusive spec.
And they’re truly something special.
Each car is fitted with sumptuous Bridge of Weir tan leather seats, handwoven by Jaguar Classic’s skilled artisans. The interior boasts an anodised aluminium centre console engraved with a Series I blueprint, quite a cool touch, to be honest. And then there’s the custom jewellery, courtesy of Deakin & Francis, England’s oldest jeweller, which has been in business since 1786.
As for the exteriors, one of these drophead coupes is finished in a deep, classic British Racing Green, while the other is draped in black. Beneath the bonnet, you’ll find the familiar 3.8-litre straight-six engine, but this one’s had a modern twist, electronic fuel injection for smoother power delivery. Pair that with a Jaguar Classic five-speed manual gearbox, and you’ve got a perfect blend of heritage and modern performance. And because this is the 21st century, you’ll also find a Bluetooth radio and, of course, a heated windscreen for those chilly early morning drives
“As the original creators of the E-Type, we’re in a unique position to subtly integrate aesthetic and engineering enhancements refined from decades of passion and expertise,” said JLR’s commercial boss, Lennard Hoornik. “The result is a machine that’s as close to driveable precious metal as you can imagine, thanks in part to our collaboration with renowned jewellers Deakin & Francis.”
So, while Jaguar might be charging towards an electric future, for a lucky few, the past is being brought back to life in the most spectacular fashion. These two E-Types aren’t just cars; they’re rolling pieces of art, lovingly handcrafted to celebrate a golden era of motoring, and they’ll be turning heads wherever they go.
