The information was revealed in a video by a Giga Shanghai employee.

According to a recent Twitter video, Tesla's Gigafactory Shanghai can produce a brand-new Model 3 or Model Y every 40 seconds. This small nugget of knowledge serves as yet another illustration of the enormous scope and effectiveness of Tesla's production in the second-largest nation in Asia.

The astounding production rate even surpasses Ford, which claimed in a news release in January 2023 that its truck facility in Dearborn, Michigan, could churn out one F-150 every 49 seconds.

On the tourist account for Shanghai, a clip was posted that gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at Giga Shanghai. A manufacturing line worker demonstrates how hundreds of robotic arms collaborate at a single station to increase productivity in one frame.

Tesla said that the Shanghai facility has been operating at close to 100% capacity for several months in a row in its Q1 and Q2 2023 financial reports. According to the earnings report, the company does not see the need to increase manufacturing in China any further.

According to one source, the facility has a capacity of more than one million vehicles annually, and Tesla has already sold up to 500,000 MIC EVs in H1 2023. The factory serves as a Tesla export hub, sending the Model 3 and Model Y to countries like Thailand and Canada among others.

Tesla has revealed a greater penetration of in-house built controllers, less expensive, more scalable drive units, and further unnamed advances. The company claims that cost optimization is the secret to its success.

The company is also utilizing methods like mega casting to streamline production, lower the overall cost of a car, and minimize the amount of components. Several other automakers revealed intentions to employ the IDRA giga press once Tesla began utilizing it.

The Shanghai factory houses 16 restaurants for workers, who can order food using an app called Teshenghuo that was built by Tesla’s IT team internally, said the presenter.

At the start of July 2023, Tesla laid off several workers at the Giga Shanghai battery production line, possibly due to the incorporation of automated equipment. Tesla offered some workers the option to switch to different workshops such as stamping, painting, or general assembly.
