Covering a total distance of 707km, Stage 4 of the 2022 Dakar rally was the longest stage of the race.
It put both man and machine to the test, but the South African competitors were up for the challenge, albeit with some heartache on the way.
Driving a Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+, Henk Lategan and co-driver Brett Cummings (Toyota Gazoo Racing) were on course for their first Dakar stage win, but a broken wheel hub shattered any hopes they might have had to achieve that.
They lost more than five hours.
Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Overdrive Toyota) won Stage 4, but received a two-minute time penalty, gifting the stage win to Toyota Gazoo Racing's Nasser Al-Attiyah and co-driver Mathieu Baumel.
Al-Attiyah said: "Today was a good day for us, without any problems. We'll try to keep this rhythm going for the coming days, starting with tomorrow's stage where we'll be opening the road."
The answer isn’t simple, or without compromise, but there are lots of key stakeholders in development of a solution, and Porsche is one of them. As part of a multi-million pound investment Porsche has partnered with Exxon Mobil and Siemens in the research, development and ultimate production of carbon-neutral eFuel – the carbon-neutral bit being the key point there.
