Bertone is back, and it’s back with its very own supercar. This is the GB110 – a very heavily reworked Lamborghini Huracán with its 5.2-litre V10 engine twin-turbocharged to produce 1,109bhp and 811lb ft of torque.
“Bertone brings the strong heritage,” new boss Jean-Franck Ricci tells TG at the car’s unveiling at Top Marques in Monaco. “I am 55 years old – I know Bertone cars off by heart. Young people don’t know the brand, but when they discover it, they think it’s incredible what they did in the past.”
Jean-Franck and his brother Mauro bought the rights to the Bertone name and brand in 2022 after selling their engineering company. “We had 22,000 engineers working for the automotive and aerospace industries,” says Jean-Franck. “We worked for companies like Daimler and the Volkswagen Group.
“I think we can consider 30 per cent [of the GB110] VW Group. The rest is completely new. The powertrain is completely new, the axles are new, brakes are new, suspension is new, body is new.”
The full carbon bodywork was penned by Italian designer Andrea Mocellin and we’re told the side profile harks back to the Lancia Stratos Zero. Yeah, we can see it. Check out the view from the rear too – those stacked exhausts are quite special.
“We decided to start with an elegant car that had a lot of power and the Bertone DNA,” says Jean-Franck. “This is what you can see here.”
The name GB110 celebrates the Bertone brand’s 110th birthday, although that was back in 2022 when Jean-Franck and Mauro first took over. Just 33 will be built in total with the first customer car scheduled for delivery in September 2025. The GB110 will be built in Turin and each one will cost – we hope you’re sitting down - €2m.
Top speed will be limited to 350kph, and Bertone bosses reckon it’ll do 0-186mph (300kph) in 12.9 seconds. “The car is very, very quick,” says Jean-Franck.
Apparently nine orders have been placed so far, so there’s room on the waiting list if you’re in the market for something ultra niche. Reckon the new Bertone will stick the landing?
