Audi is taking their new Q6 and SQ6 E-Tron and giving them the stylish Sportback treatment. You know the drill: a sleek, coupe-like roofline that takes these electric SUVs from utilitarian to head-turning, all while keeping performance front and centre.
The whole "coupe SUV" phenomenon kicked off in the 2000s, especially among luxury brands, and now it’s spreading like wildfire in the EV world. There’s logic to it too, those sloping roofs aren’t just for show. They can help extend the range by a few extra kilometres, which, in the EV game, could make all the difference. Audi, already having success with its Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportbacks, is now extending the line-up with the new Q6 e-tron Sportback.
What’s changed? It’s all about that silhouette. Above the shoulder line, the Q6 E-Tron Sportback gets a roofline that’s 35 mm lower, swooping down toward the rear where it meets a subtle lip spoiler and the rear brake light. From the back, though, it’s basically the same as the standard Q6 e-tron SUV, full-width light bar, chunky bumper, the works. Step inside, and you’ll see the familiar setup, including an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster, a massive 14.5-inch central touchscreen, and for your front passenger, there’s an optional 10.9-inch display to keep them entertained. Of course, you lose a bit of cargo space thanks to that rakish roof, but hey, style has its trade-offs.
Underneath, the Sportback stays true to its roots. It shares the same platform as the regular Q6 E-Tron, riding on Volkswagen Group's new PPE architecture, the same one that’s underpinning the upcoming Porsche Macan EV. The 94.4-kWh battery pack should give you similar range figures to the standard Q6 E-Tron, with Audi estimating around 480 km on a full charge. Thanks to the 800-volt system, DC fast-charging can hit up to 270 kW, meaning you can charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes, perfect for those quick roadside stops.
The Sportback will only be available in all-wheel drive, so if you were eyeing the rear-wheel-drive version, you’ll have to stick to the standard Q6 E-Tron. Power-wise, the Sportback’s dual-motor setup delivers a punchy 456 hp (340 kW), with a top speed of 210 km/h. And if that’s not enough, the SQ6 E-Tron Sportback cranks things up to 509 hp (380 kW) and a top speed of 230 km/h. Audi’s keeping full performance figures under wraps for now, but expect more details as we get closer to the launch date.
In short, Audi’s latest Sportback is shaping up to be the perfect blend of style, practicality, and electric performance, ready to turn heads while keeping you at the cutting edge of the EV world.
