When will we see an electric Pagani hypercar? The answer remains elusive. Pagani has been toying with the idea of an EV for over five years, grappling with concerns that the technology might dilute the essence of its ultra-exclusive cars. Yet, the dream isn’t dead.

Christopher Pagani, son of the founder and the brand’s marketing director, told CarBuzz that the electric project is very much alive. "We loved working on the electric car, and we still are working on this project, so it's not a closed chapter for us," he said.

Pagani is keen to stress that an electric hypercar is about more than just raw speed. "For us, the performance is in the vehicle dynamics. It's not the amount of horsepower. It's not the top speed," he added.

As of now, Pagani hasn’t produced a full-scale working prototype. In 2023, Christopher mentioned that current battery technology is too heavy for the kind of EV Pagani envisions. The company hopes to push the boundaries when the time comes to deliver such a vehicle.

But don’t hold your breath for a Pagani EV in the near future. The company believes in the concept but faces a lack of interest from its dealers, who will ultimately be responsible for selling these cutting-edge machines.

Pagani isn’t alone in this conundrum. Mate Rimac noted earlier this year that affluent customers are increasingly shunning electric hypercars, preferring the visceral thrill of combustion engines and analog driving experiences. As EV prices drop and the technology becomes more mainstream, the wealthy will seek ways to distinguish themselves from the masses. This trend could ensure Pagani and its rivals remain busy catering to a niche market hungry for the unique and extraordinary.
