Unserious Fun, All Wrapped Up in Charm

The 2025 Mini Cooper Convertible is here, and it’s as cheeky and full of personality as ever. With its refreshed looks, it gets the sleek, smooth styling of the latest Mini lineup but retains one charming little detail an updated Always Open Timer to tell you exactly how long you’ve been soaking up the sun with the roof down. It’s back, and we couldn’t be more delighted.

Few cars deliver as much charm per square meter as a Mini Cooper, and the convertible version dials that up to eleven. This isn’t a car designed to blend in with the aggressive, angular shapes that dominate the roads. From its wide-eyed, smiley face to the joyous swirl of air that surrounds you on your favorite winding road, the Mini Convertible is unapologetically about fun. It’s an “unserious” car and that’s a compliment. As Mini rolls out the all-new 2025 version, it’s not just fresh design we’re talking about, but also the return of one of its most endearing features.

Like the hardtop Cooper and Cooper S, the 2025 convertible adopts a refined, modern design both inside and out. One key exterior difference is that the convertible keeps the previous model’s taillights, probably to accommodate that compact rear trunk. Still, the front end retains the playful, almost cartoonish appeal that makes this car feel like it could be a character in a Pokémon game.

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by a single central screen paired with a head-up display a nod to modernity in an otherwise retro-inspired interior. It’s all premium materials, with a minimalist vibe that feels just right for Mini. The 9.5-inch OLED central display is a perfect fit for the car’s bubbly personality.

The 2025 Mini Convertible sticks to what it does best: delivering zippy, turbocharged fun. You’ve got two options, both turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. The standard Cooper model delivers 120 kW of power with 250 Nm of torque, while the Cooper S cranks things up to 150 kW and 300 Nm. The only transmission is a slick seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and Mini claims the Cooper S can hit 100 km/h in just under seven seconds. That’s quick enough for plenty of grin-inducing fun.

But the most important number? The speed of that convertible top it folds down in just 18 seconds. And you don’t even need to stop to do it; you can lower it while cruising at speeds of up to 30 km/h. If you fancy a partial open-roof experience, the top can also be retracted by up to 40 cm, effectively giving you a sunroof-like setup.

Now, about that Always Open Timer it’s back. Originally introduced in 2009, this quirky little feature tracks how long you’ve driven with the roof down. Is it essential? Not really. But is it a hilarious, feel-good stat you’ll proudly share with your passengers? Absolutely. After disappearing for a few years, the timer makes its return on the central digital display, reminding you that driving a Mini Convertible is about enjoying the moment and making the most of every sunny day.

With electric Minis now entering the lineup, this 2025 Convertible marks the final combustion-powered Mini to be introduced. So, if you’ve been holding out for a turbocharged, wind-in-your-hair, go-kart experience, now’s your chance. It’s the perfect reminder that life is too short to be serious all the time so why not opt for a car that combines the playful spirit of a roller skate with the carefree attitude of a beach umbrella?

This Mini Convertible is a celebration of joy, fun, and freedom a car that says, “Let’s go for a drive, and let’s make it memorable.”
