It comes with a manual gearbox

The manual-transmission Volkswagen Golf GTI will no longer be available. The carmaker has unveiled the new 2024 Golf GTI 380 package for manual-equipped cars regardless of grade, honoring the gearbox's history before it is lost.

Every Golf GTI trim with the six-speed manual comes with the equipment package as standard, and it has various aesthetic upgrades. It is mounted on Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition 19-inch gloss black aluminum alloy wheels that the manufacturer has fitted with summer performance tires. In addition, Volkswagen applies gloss black paint to the roof and mirror caps, which stands out against the GTI's usual external red elements.

The gloss-black portions of the automobile will stand out against the varied exterior colors. Graphite Gray Metallic is the only color available for the GTI 380; other options are Atlantic Blue Metallic, Deep Black Pearl, Kings Red Metallic, Moonstone Gray, Opal White Pearl, and Reflex Silver Metallic.

Inside, the model's signature shift knob—inspired by a golf ball—is located in the space between the seats. VW comes standard with the venerable Scalepaper Plaid fabric seats on the GTI S and GTI SE models. For the Autobahn level, Vienna leather seats are standard; for the SE, they are optional.

The package's name is derived from the internal model code of the Mk8. It pays homage to the GTI 337 from 2002, which used the Mk1 GTI's internal name.

The GTI 380 is powered by a 2.0-liter, EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Volkswagen will continue to offer the engine, which generates 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in the hot hatch and Golf R models.

Yes, after the 2024 model year, even the R will no longer have a stick shift. The DCC adaptive damping technology is standard on the 380 even if there are no engine changes.

Even if the loss of the GTI with a manual transmission is regrettable, the vehicle is undoubtedly still alive. The "I" in the word mark transforming to a lightning bolt in a trademark registration hints the manufacturer has ambitions to electrify the legendary hot-hatch, although we don't anticipate such a vehicle to debut until closer to the end of the decade. The next-generation Golf is likely some years away from becoming a reality because the eighth-generation Golf is still brand-new and is due to receive its mid-cycle upgrade.
