Almost thirty years ago, the world saw the first Kia. It was not an instant hit in SA when it arrived, with some early question marks about this somewhat unknown South Korean car brand. But over the years, Kia has earned an excellent reputation, and so, it comes as no surprise that, to date, more than five million units have been sold.

While an all-new 5th generation Sportage will land in South Africa this year, Kia introduced a very review worthy limited-edition Sportage GT-Line.

Stephen Crosse, Sales and Marketing Director, Kia South Africa, captured the occasion well when he said: "Sportage has a nearly three-decade-long heritage and remains Kia's best-selling model globally. Now, with the addition of the GT-Line derivative at the peak of the range, the Sportage is at its most expressive, dynamic and luxurious, and offers a distinguished last hurrah before the fifth-generation model debuts next year."

The new Kia Sportage gets a much more modern-looking interior than the outgoing model. Instead of that car’s relatively small touchscreen, you get a 12.3-inch central screen that links up to a new 12.3-inch digital driver’s display – much like the dual-screen setups you find in many Mercedes cars.

You get very few physical buttons in the new Sportage’s interior – as is common these days – so it may be a little tricky to operate some of the system’s more detailed menus while you’re driving.

The Sportage has 591 litres of boot space. That’s a significant improvement on the outgoing car’s 503-litre capacity. Flip the back seats down and you can carry 1,780 litres of family odds-and-ends.

The GT-Line model launches in SA 2023, specifically, features standout body colors and an interior that utilizes a black and white interior to generate contrast and create a lively environment, says Kia. It also features special badging, dark contrasting wheel arches, black-painted mirror caps, dark 18-inch wheels, and much much more.

The answer isn’t simple, or without compromise, but there are lots of key stakeholders in development of a solution, and Porsche is one of them. As part of a multi-million pound investment Porsche has partnered with Exxon Mobil and Siemens in the research, development and ultimate production of carbon-neutral eFuel – the carbon-neutral bit being the key point there.
